EndNote21

Go to EndNote21 Installers to get the software. You will need lo log in with your standard SDSU credentials. There is a folder for the Mac installer and one for the Windows installer. Go to the appropriate folder and download the one file for Macs or two files for Windows.

Microsoft Office programs

• Make sure all Microsoft Office programs are closed before installing EndNote.

Windows

• Leave both the EN21Inst and License.dat files in the same place and double click the EN21Inst file. 
• Follow the instructions on the screen during installation. 
  • If you get a box asking for a product ID, it is probably because the two files were not saved in the same place on your computer. Your computer can read the License.dat file if it is in the same folder as the En21Inst file. If you click on the License.dat file it will corrupt the files and you will need to uninstall and reinstall the two files again. 

Mac

• Download the EndNote21-Mac-Installer file. 
• Double click the downloaded file. 
• Double click the Program Icon. 
• Follow the instructions on the screen during installation.
• NOTE: When the Mac version of EndNote first opens, the program will open but there will not be a library open so it will look as though the program is not running. See https://libguides.sdstate.edu/c.php?g=1117168&p=8279356#s-lg-box-wrapper-32736919 for more information.
  • If you see your desktop and only the EndNote menu at the top of the screen, go to the File menu and select New to create a library.

Windows

• In EndNote, click on the Help menu;
• Click on "Check for Updates..."
• If there is an update, download it and follow any instructions for installing.

Mac

• In EndNote, click on the EndNote 21 menu.
• Click on "Check for Updates..."
• If there is an update, download it and follow any instructions for installing.
