EBSCO eBooks Search

Ebsco e-Books can be searched as a collection or in our catalog or in Ebsco using the widget below. We have thousands of e-books in this collection. Note that when you view the text of an e-book in this collection, the computer "checks it out" and it will only become available for viewing after 30 minutes of inactivity.

You can create a free account in Ebsco that will allow you to checkout and download most Ebsco e-books to read on a portable device. You can check books out for varying times and choose different times for different books (up to one week for many). You can also check books in early if you are finished with one and are using Adobe Digital Editions to read it.

Towards the bottom of the left-hand column is a link for free collections of Kindle books. You can also search the word "free" to find free Kindle books. Note that the search also gets books with the word free in the record so check the price before you download. You will need a free account with a credit card associated with it to download these books which can be read on the Amazon Kindle, PCs, Macs, Android devices, and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.).
Barnes & Noble Nook Books
You can search the word "free" for Nook Books you can download for free. Note that this search will also bring up any books with the word free in the title or author so be sure to check the price before you download. You will need a free account that has a credit card associated with it to download books which can be read on the Barnes and Noble Nook, PCs, Macs, Android devices, and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.).

Provides access to fiction and nonfiction works of literature, reference and verse on topics such as English Language Usage, Religion and Mythology, Etiquette, Literary History and Literature, Poetry and plays. Bartleby’s features Familiar Quotations, the King James Bible, Oxford Shakespeare, Gray’s Anatomy, the World Factbook and much more.

This system has primarily engineering and other sciences books. We have a small percentage of those in this database.
Directory of Open Access Books
DOAB provides access to open access, peer reviewed books. The goal of this site is to provide access to academic quality books. Many of these books can be purchased in print as well as freely downloaded.

Ebook Central has credible content from authoritative, scholarly sources. It delivers a limited selection of 2000+ titles from scholarly sources, including University Presses and other top publishers.

You can search the word "free" on the books site on Google Play for books you can download for free. You will need a free Google account (if you have a gmail account, this is a Google account) and have a credit card associated with the account to download these books which can be read on the Barnes and Noble Nook, PCs, Macs, Android devices, and iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, etc.).

Collection of full-text e-books that have undergone a rigorous academic review process by distinguished historians. Includes a range of subjects including Africa, colonial Latin America, and South Asia; Europe before 1800; military history and history of foreign relations; the history of North America before 1900; women's history and history of gender.
HathiTrust
HathiTrust is a partnership of academic & research institutions, offering a collection of millions of titles digitized from libraries around the world. Not all books are available due to copyright restrictions.
JSTOR Open Access Books
JSTOR is offering open access books from major publishers. Unlike many free e-book platforms these are not books in the public domain due to time, the publishers and authors have made these books available through Creative Commons Licenses.
Knowledge Unlatched
This collection of scholarly books is chosen from publishers who submit books for inclusion in this collection. The books are offered shortly after they are available in print through a Creative Commons License.
National Academies Press
Note that a free, personal account is required to download books from this press.
OAPEN Library
This collection has a collection of quality controlled (peer-reviewed), open access books. Many are in English but a significant portion of the collection are in other languages. The focus of this collection is the humanities and social sciences.
Perseus Digital Library
This collection focuses on classic texts. The texts are often available in the original language and some have English translations available when the original is not in English.
Project Gutenberg
Over 40,000 free e-books to download. These e-books can be downloaded on most devices including the Kindle.

This is the free version of this database. It contains some classic works in the original Greek. To read or view the texts, you must have a polytonic Greek font loaded on your computer.
