E-books at Briggs Library: iPad e-books

Briggs has e-books in many different collections. This guide will help you find and use them.

How to get books on your iPad

Each different collection or app will have different methods of obtaining books. Most are straight-forward - just open the book or the pdf and your iPad will do the work. Many Ebsco e-Books can be downloaded and the steps are a bit more complicated so instructions are below. There are links to the right for various e-readers you might need to read various types of books on your iPad.

Ebsco e-books on the iPad

Ebsco e-books for iPad uses the Ebsco e-books app. You can get this app from the iTunes App Store.

Sign in to your free Ebsco account

If you don't have an ebsco account, create one. See the box below for information on creating an Ebsco account.

Search Ebsco e-books for books you would like to read.

Tap on Download (Offline).

Note that not all books can be downloaded.

Choose how long to check the book out for. Some books have the option of 1 to 3 or 1 to 7 days then touch "Checkout & Download".

When the book is checked out, you will get the message that it is checked out and you can finish downloading the book. Touch the Download This eBook (Offline) link.

Touch Open in "Bluefire..."

The book should appear in BlueFire Reader and you can choose to open it and read it now or read it later.

Creating a Free Ebsco Account

From any Ebsco database:

  • Click on "Sign In" in the menu bar

  • Click on "Create a new Account"

  • Fill out the form and save changes

  • You will be signed in and can use the added functionality of your Ebsco account.

The iTunes store has hundreds of e-book readers available. Below are a small fraction of those readers. There are some specialty readers that you might find useful so don't limit yourself to those that are listed below.
