Creating a Profile in Google Scholar
1. Navigate to Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.com/ Click "My Profile" on the top left hand side of the screen.
2. Sign in or create a Gmail account to begin creating your profile.
3. Add your affiliation, institutional email, and any areas of interest or additional information. You can always update this later if you switch institutions. Then, click "Next."
4. You will receive an email to your SDSU email; verify your email address.
5. Add your articles. You can choose to browse through the articles Google Scholar has automatically associated with your name, and you can search with your ORCiD ID or with your articles' citation information.
a. Google Scholar defaults to showing "groups" of articles. Click on the number of articles to view them. If a group of articles are all correctly identified as yours, click the small box next to your name, then click the small arrow on the top right hand side of the page to continue.
b. If you'd rather look at individual articles, click the "Articles" tab or click on the number of articles. Then, click the small box next to each article you'd like to add. Once you've added all articles, click the small arrow on the top right hand side of the page to continue.
6. Set your other preferences. You can choose if articles will be automatically added to your profile, if your profile will be public (I highly recommend making it public for findability), and if you'd like to receive other articles and updates. Click "Done."
7. Add a photo to make yourself more visible. You can also add co-authors.
8. Your profile is complete! Make sure to update it whenever you switch institutions or publish a new work. You can access it anytime by following Step 1 above.
