Free Audiobooks to Download

Audiobooks are books that have been recorded by readers so you can listen to them. Listed below are collections of free audiobooks.

Librivox.org

This site has over 5000 audiobooks for download. They are available in mp3 (most portable music players such as iPods) and ogg (linux based machines) files. You can even volunteer to read copyright free books for LibriVox. Books are mostly in English but there are several other languages represented as well.

Books Should Be Free

Books Should Be Free finds free audiobooks and ebooks from LibriVox and other online sources. This is an excellent source for browsing for books as their catalog is organized into genres as well as being searchable. Books are mostly in English but there are several other languages represented as well.

Sync

Sync gives away audiobooks during the summer. They focus on young adult audiobooks but, starting in the summer of 2013, they are pairing a young adult book with a "classic" that is on summer reading lists for high schools. There is a pair of books given away each week.

Briggs Library Audiobooks

Briggs Library has a few audiobooks that you can download for a short time.

Ebsco Audiobooks

Ebsco provides a few audiobooks for you to check out for up to 21 days. These audiobooks can be downloaded to Windows Media Player or to an Apple device via iTunes. A free Ebsco account is needed to checkout an audiobook.

Audiobooks to Purchase

There are many sources of audiobooks for purchase. Those listed below have been used by Briggs Library staff and are stable and reliable.

Audible.com

Audible.com is one of the premiere audiobook providers. They sell audiobooks from the major audiobook publishers. You must have a free account with Audible or with Amazon to order. You can order groups of points from Audible and then purchase books with those points, this gives the purchaser a significant discount on the audiobooks (in 2012, each book would cost a Platinum member $9.56) and allows extra purchases without using points a 30% discount on the price listed. Audible is owned by Amazon. These audiobooks work with most players.

iTunes

Audiobooks are also available from iTunes for any player that will play items from iTunes.
